Native to western North America, California Poppy (Eschscholszia californica) is one of the easiest-to-grow wildflowers. Perennial in mild climates and readily re-seeding in all climates, CA Poppy stays put once established, is not picky about soil, and requires no attention. Here in southern CA, it will bloom damn near year-round. Its silky orange flowers are attractive to bees and other pollinators. The entire plant was used medicinally by indigenous peoples of the west. A tea made from the leaves and flowers of CA Poppy is known to be mildly sedative, anti-anxiety, and aiding troubled sleep.
