The sweetest tasting asparagus we’ve ever tried, and also strikingly beautiful. Asparagus, especially started from seed, is a crop that requires patience. Seeds take about three weeks to germinate, and seedlings must be nurtured up to the appropriate size prior to transplant, which can take a number of months. Second-year plants can be mildly harvested. Purple spears are ready to harvest after their third year of growth. Our very first seed production effort with this crop, so it’s reasonable to expect some green off-types.
Grown at Mano Farm in Ojai, California.
Second-year harvest from seed. Perennial.
