Silk Mullein (Verbascum bombyciferum) is a very special variety of this favorite medicinal plant. A soft, ‘silky’ white covering over the entire plant, both leaves, and flowering stalk, make this mullein seemingly glow in the garden. Huge, fuzzy leaves have many medicinal uses with a special affinity for the lungs. An effective, gentle expectorant, a tea made from the leaves may help to clear respiratory congestion. The dried leaves are a staple in an herbal smoking blend. The flowers are attractive to bees and a multitude of other pollinators and combine with garlic to make an oil infusion that is a trusted remedy for ear infection. This plant is on our top ten list of staple medicinal herbs.
